potentially serious condition is peripartum cardiomyopathy, a form of heart muscle weakness that can develop toward the end of pregnancy or during the months following childbirth.
Symptoms may include shortness of breath, swelling, extreme fatigue, and a rapid heartbeat.
Because some of these symptoms can resemble normal pregnancy or postpartum changes, they should not automatically be dismissed.
Infection
Postpartum infections can also become serious.
Fever, chills, worsening abdominal or pelvic pain, foul-smelling vaginal discharge, or feeling severely unwell can indicate an infection requiring medical evaluation.
