light switch.
It isn’t a universal rule, though, so you shouldn’t assume every upside-down outlet is switch-controlled.
Why Are Most Household Outlets Ground-Down?
Tradition plays a major role.
Most people are simply accustomed to seeing outlets with the ground opening at the bottom. Certain plugs and appliances are also designed in ways that work particularly naturally with that orientation.
For example, some right-angle plugs have cords that exit downward. Reversing the outlet can sometimes make those plugs less convenient or allow the cord’s weight to pull differently on the connection.
